Configuring Controller Network Settings

For a technician setting up the controller's basic network identity so it can communicate on the plant network for backups, monitoring, or fieldbus traffic.

  1. Step 1.

    Confirm assigned network details

    Get the IP address, subnet mask, router (gateway) IP, and robot name from IT before starting.

  2. Step 2.

    Open the Host Comm TCP/IP detail screen

    On the pendant, press MENU, then SETUP, then F1 [TYPE], pick Host Comm, select TCP/IP, then press F3 DETAIL. Do not use the System Config screen; that's an unrelated menu.

  3. Step 3.

    Enter the IP address and subnet mask

    Type the assigned values carefully, checking each field before saving.

  4. Step 4.

    Enter the router IP address

    Fill in the router (gateway) IP address needed for the controller's network use.

  5. Step 5.

    Set the robot name

    Assign a clear, unique robot name that identifies the controller on the network.

  6. Step 6.

    Save and cycle power if required

    Apply the settings and restart the controller if the network stack requires it to take effect.

  7. Step 7.

    Test connectivity

    Use PING from the Host Comm screen, or ping the controller from a PC on the same network, to confirm it responds.
