CIP Safety fieldbus

Safety-rated extension of EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet that carries safety signals, such as e-stop and guard status, over the same network as standard I/O.

CIP Safety adds a safety layer on top of standard EtherNet/IP or DeviceNet, allowing safety-rated devices like light curtains, scanners, and safety relays to share the same network cabling as regular I/O while keeping the safety data independently validated end to end.

Rockwell Automation's GuardLogix controllers are the most common platform running CIP Safety, and several robot controllers offer a CIP Safety option that connects the robot's safe I/O directly into that network instead of using separate hardwired safety cabling.

Reducing the amount of dedicated safety wiring lowers installation cost and simplifies diagnostics, since safety status is visible over the network rather than only through physical relay states.
