Servo weld gun

Resistance spot welding gun driven by a servo motor axis, integrated with the robot for controlled tip force and adaptive gun opening.

A servo weld gun replaces the fixed-force pneumatic cylinder of a traditional spot welding gun with a servo motor axis that the robot controller commands directly, giving precise control over tip force, closing speed, and gun opening width at each weld point. This lets a single gun handle a range of material stack-ups and access conditions on the same part.

Because the gun operates as an additional robot axis, it is typically connected over EtherCAT or the robot's own high-speed servo bus, and gun calibration and tip dressing routines are built into the robot program.

Servo guns cost more than pneumatic guns but reduce weld inconsistency from tip wear and material variation, and they allow adaptive force control for weld quality monitoring systems.
