Material Removal

Material removal covers robotic cutting, trimming, and stock removal processes where the robot carries or presents a tool that takes material off the part.

The robot guides a cutting, routing, or trimming tool along a programmed path, removing flash, excess stock, or unwanted material from a molded or cast part.

Process forces push back against the arm, so rigidity and repeatable path accuracy matter more than in simple handling tasks, and many cells add force control to hold consistent tool pressure.

Dust, chips, or coolant from the removal process need containment and extraction, both to protect the robot and to keep the work area clear for the next operation.
