Powder Coating

Powder coating robots apply electrostatically charged dry powder to a part, which is then cured in an oven, an alternative finishing process to liquid paint.

The robot carries an electrostatic powder gun through a path similar to liquid painting, but the coating is a charged dry powder that clings to the grounded part until it is baked into a finish coat.

Grounding and electrostatic isolation are part of the equipment design, since the gun charges powder particles to improve transfer efficiency, and the robot needs to tolerate that electrical environment safely.

As with liquid paint booths, the robot needs explosion-proof rating and a pressurization or purge system, since powder overspray creates a combustible dust atmosphere.
