Robotics in Manufacturing

Robotics market

China's industrial robot output jumped 34.6% in August 2026

34.6%. That's how much China's output of industrial robots grew in August 2026 compared with a year earlier, according to official data reported by Xinhua. Overall manufacturing value added grew 6.1%.

Exports are climbing too. China's robot exports reached 11.32 billion yuan, about $1.67 billion, across 148 countries in the first quarter of 2026, with industrial robot exports up 42%. And the 15th Five-Year Plan, launched this year, places robotics at the heart of the country's industrial system.

This page traces the 2026 figures to their sources and sets them beside IFR's count of China's robot stock.

Data covers China's industrial robot output growth in August 2026, robot exports in Q1 2026, and the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026 to 2030), with IFR's 2024 stock and installation share for context. The figures and where they come from

Each figure is rated for how safely you can cite it today. Ratings judge current usability, not whether a number was ever correct.

Why the numbers disagree

Output and installations measure different things. The 34.6% is growth in robots produced in China; IFR counts robots installed there, from any maker. A Chinese-built robot shipped abroad counts in output but not in China's installations.

The 2026 figures here are growth rates and values reported by Xinhua, not unit counts. Without the base, you can't turn 34.6% into a number of robots.

Statistics from different years sit side by side. The output and export figures are for 2026; IFR's stock and 54% share are for 2024. IFR's 2025 share is 59%.

How to cite these figures

Cite it as China National Bureau of Statistics data via Xinhua: industrial robot output up 34.6% year on year in August 2026.

Keep growth figures and IFR's counts in their own years, and say which is output and which is installation.

For a unit count of Chinese robot output, use a source that publishes the level, such as the NBS release or IFR's annual report, rather than deriving one.

Where people go wrong

Reading 34.6% output growth as 34.6% more robots installed in China. Output includes exports.

Pairing the 2024 54% share with 2026 output as if they were the same year.

Converting the 42% export growth into a unit count. The report gives no base.

How we checked

The August 2026 output growth, manufacturing value added and year-to-date output come from Xinhua's report of National Bureau of Statistics data, as carried by China Daily Hong Kong. The Q1 2026 export figures come from a Xinhua item republished by Italy's ICE trade agency.

Both Xinhua figures rate Medium because they are secondary reports of official data. IFR's figures rate High and come from its May 2026 release on China's 15th Five-Year Plan.
