India's robot installations rose 15% to almost 10,500

Almost 10,500 industrial robots were installed in India in 2025, 15% more than a year earlier. That kept India sixth in the world, behind Germany, according to the IFR.

The rank held; the growth rate is the story. Between 2020 and 2025, India's annual installations grew 27% a year on average, which IFR calls remarkable. It also notes that the volume is still relatively low compared with the top five established markets.

This page traces India's count, rank and growth rate to the IFR release, and links back to the 2024 figure it succeeds.

Data covers Industrial robot installations in India in 2025, with the 2020 to 2025 growth rate (IFR World Robotics 2026, September 2026). Published 2026-10-06. Last reviewed 2026-10-06. Last updated 2026-10-06. Edited by Mike Ramsey / Reliable Media.

The figures and where they come from

Each figure is rated for how safely you can cite it today. Ratings judge current usability, not whether a number was ever correct.

Why the numbers disagree

A rising count and a steady rank are both true. India installed more robots than in 2024 without moving up the table, because the markets above it are still several times larger. Growth on a small base can be fast for years before it changes a ranking.

Compound averages depend on their window. The 27% rate describes 2020 to 2025. Projecting it forward, or comparing it with a rate calculated over different years, makes it say more than IFR does.

The gap is narrowing from both sides. Germany, in fifth place, installed fewer than 25,000 robots in 2025, down 8%, while India rose 15%.

How to cite these figures

Cite almost 10,500 industrial robots installed in India in 2025, up 15%, from IFR World Robotics 2026.

Give the growth rate with its window: 27% a year on average from 2020 to 2025.

Pair the rank with the volume. Sixth worldwide is accurate, and so is IFR's note that India's volume remains low next to the top five.

Where people go wrong

Quoting India's 2024 figure as current. The 2025 count is almost 10,500.

Treating the 27% average as a forecast. It describes 2020 to 2025.

Reading sixth place as closeness to the top five. India's volume remains relatively low by comparison.

How we checked

India's count, rank and growth rate all come from IFR's World Robotics 2026 global release, and the comparison with Germany uses the same document, so both describe the same year on the same basis.

IFR states the total as almost 10,500. Keeping the qualifier is deliberate: a rounded 10,500 would imply a precision the release does not give.

Our page on India's 2024 installations remains as the record for that year; this page succeeds it rather than revising it.
