Why the numbers disagree

IFR and A3 count different things. The IFR measures robots installed and put into service in a year; A3, the Association for Advancing Automation, reports orders (units and dollars) booked by its member companies. Orders and installations move on different clocks, since an order placed one quarter can be commissioned the next, so the two data sets will not line up even when both are correct.
