Assigning UOP/SOP Signals

For a technician mapping the standard user operator panel and system operator panel signals used to start, stop, and control the robot from a PLC or external panel.

  1. Step 1.

    Review the required UOP signals

    Identify which standard signals are needed, such as cycle start, fault reset, hold, and program select bits.

  2. Step 2.

    Open the UOP/SOP configuration screen

    On the pendant, go to I/O, then Assign, and select the UOP or rack mapping screen.

  3. Step 3.

    Map each UOP signal to a physical input or output

    Assign the correct physical I/O point to each UOP function according to the wiring diagram.

  4. Step 4.

    Set SOP signals if the panel uses system-side control

    Assign the corresponding SOP inputs and outputs for panel-based start, stop, and mode selection.

    Enable UOP or SOP control mode

    Set the system variable or setup option that tells the controller to accept remote commands from UOP or SOP.

  6. Step 6.

    Test each function from the panel or PLC

    Trigger cycle start, hold, and reset from the external source and confirm the robot responds correctly. Before triggering remote motion, confirm the cell is clear and all personnel are outside the guard, since a remote cycle start can command full-speed automatic motion.

  7. Step 7.

    Confirm fault and safety signals report correctly

    Verify that fault and safety-related UOP outputs correctly reflect the robot's actual state to the PLC.

  8. Step 8.

    Document the final signal map

    Save the completed UOP and SOP assignment list with the cell's documentation.
