Restoring Files from MD: (F4 RESTOR)
For a technician restoring controller files from MD: or another storage device using the File screen F4 RESTOR, selecting documented restore categories.
- Step 1.
Open the File screen
On the pendant, go to MENU, File, File.
- Step 2.
Set the device to the source
Use UTIL, Set Device and choose MD: or the storage device that holds the backup files.
- Step 3.
Press F4 RESTOR and pick a documented category
Choose from the documented restore items: System files, TP programs, Application, Applic. TP, Error log, Diagnostic, Vision data, All of above, Maintenance, or ASCII programs. Pick the category that matches what you need to bring back.
- Step 4.
Understand the risk before restoring System files or All of above
System files and All of above can include mastering data (SYSMAST.SV) and other core controller state. Restoring these is not a routine action like a TP-only restore. Restoring bad or mismatched mastering data will cause the robot to move to incorrect positions. Confirm the backup source and version match this exact robot before proceeding, and be prepared to verify or remaster afterwards.
- Step 5.
Select specific files if a partial restore is needed
Within the chosen category, choose individual files instead of the full set if only certain files need to be recovered. For System files or All of above, prefer a targeted file selection over a blanket restore when possible.
- Step 6.
Use Controlled start for system file restores if required
Some system file restores must be run from the Controlled start File screen RESTOR rather than the normal File screen. Follow the published procedure for the file type being restored.
- Step 7.
Confirm and run the restore
Accept the prompt and wait for the restore to complete.
- Step 8.
Verify the restored files
Open the restored programs or check the restored system data and confirm the expected content is in place.

Verify mastering and remaster if required after a system file restore
If System files or All of above was restored, check that mastering is valid for this robot. Compare TCP behavior at known reference points before returning to production. If mastering does not match, perform the documented remastering procedure before running any production program.
