FROM/SRAM Memory Module
Stores system software, user programs, and calibration data, with SRAM contents preserved by battery backup when power is off.
FROM (flash ROM) holds the system software image, while SRAM holds programs, position registers, and calibration data and depends on the controller battery to retain its contents when the cabinet is powered off.
A weak or dead controller battery is the single most common cause of lost programs and lost mastering data on older robots, which is why manufacturers recommend replacing this battery on a fixed schedule rather than waiting for it to fail.
Some controller families combine FROM and SRAM on the CPU board itself, while others use a separate memory card, so the physical form of this part varies by model.
