Robotics in Manufacturing

Manufacturer

Universal Robots

Danish company credited with popularizing the collaborative robot category, now part of Teradyne, with the widest cobot installed base in the industry.

Universal Robots was founded in 2005 in Odense, Denmark, and launched the UR5 in 2008, one of the first commercially successful cobots that could work without a safety cage in many applications.

The company was acquired by Teradyne in 2015 and has continued to expand its e-Series lineup, adding higher payload arms like the UR20 and UR30 alongside the original UR3e through UR16e range.

UR's PolyScope programming interface and large third-party ecosystem, called UR+, made it a common first robot for small and mid-size manufacturers with no prior automation experience.

Because of its scale, UR robots have the largest base of trained integrators, grippers, and community resources of any cobot brand.
