Universal Robots UR20

The Universal Robots UR20 is a collaborative six-axis arm that moves 20 kg to a reach of 1750 mm while holding repeatability of 0.1 mm. Universal Robots frames it as an industrial reach cobot for heavier handling jobs, pushing the lineup into longer reach and higher payload than the classic e-Series. At 64 kg, it's a substantial arm that still keeps UR's collaborative safety and programming approach.

Mounting covers floor, wall, ceiling, and any angle or tilted positions, so a cell can place the base where the part flow works best. That range suits machine tending, where the 1750 mm reach covers a larger work envelope across fixtures. Existing UR users get the familiar programming, which shortens the ramp when a job outgrows a smaller cobot.

For material handling and palletizing, the 20 kg payload takes on loads that push past UR's smaller cobots. Its power-and-force-limiting design is built for collaborative applications; whether the cell can drop the hard guarding a traditional industrial robot needs is set by its risk assessment. The UR20 runs on the Control Box controller and keeps six axes for orienting tooling through tight approaches.

Universal Robots introduced the UR20 in 2022, and the body carries an IP65 rating. The slimmer joint design is pitched at better access in crowded cells, which matters when a 1750 mm arm shares floor space with conveyors and fixtures. It also handles collaborative assembly work where an operator stays in the loop.

The tradeoff is size: the UR20 has a larger footprint than UR's smaller cobots, so a tight benchtop cell isn't the right home for it. Teams needing 20 kg at 1750 mm reach with 0.1 mm repeatability, plus the freedom to mount on a floor, wall, ceiling, or any angle, will get the most out of it. Shops whose parts stay light and close should reach for a smaller arm.
